Outcomes 2012-2020

2019-2020

  • In January 2019, for the first time in the history of the PEL program, an opportunity to pursue a pilot program for students to earn a general university credit through Western Initiative for Scholarly Excellence (WISE) Program upon completion of the PEL Program was initiated. Marg Connor, Director, Program Implementation Branch, Student Achievement Division was enthusiastic about this new initiative for PEL1920.
  • Promotion of 2019-2020 Partners in Experiential Learning (PEL) began in February 2019. PEL Co-op teachers were invited to promote PEL for 2019-2020).  We connected with 21 secondary schools in our region (TVDSB and LDCSB) to promote PEL to all guidance and cooperative education departments.
  • Letter of Intent and rationale for the PEL and WISE pilot program sent to the Ministry of Education March 2019
  • Notice of the pilot program was sent to TVDSB and LDCSB April 2019 followed up by Information Sessions for PEL 1920 mentors and supervisors held at Victoria Hospital and University Hospital. 
  • The Ministry of Education confirmed funding of the PEL Program for the 2019-2020 academic year.
  • PEL Program Coordinator was re-hired part-time in February 2019. 
  • The PEL Director conducted in-school Group Interviews with registered applicants.  Ten (10) Co-op Education Teachers registered 63 PEL Applicants from nine (9) secondary schools in May-June.
  • The PEL Director approached 80 mentors to match students for the year. Mentors were found for 28 placements over the summer months for Semester 1 and Day 1/ Day 2 students for the 2019-2020 PEL Program in 28 health research environments. Several mentors accepted students for both terms. 
  • PEL Co-op student spreadsheets were finalized by August. 
  • A meeting to discuss the PEL 1000 general credit course for the WISE Pilot program for 2019-2020 held in November 2019. The outcome was the pilot program was not feasible.  PEL 1000 course for the WISE credit would not be offered.  
  • Mandatory pre-placement orientation was held on September 13th at London Health Sciences Centre, Victoria Hospital campus, attended by all Term 1 and D1/D2 students.  The majority of placements started in early October.  Orientation included mentor expectations, library resources, Biosafety presentation and instructions to set up laboratory notebooks.
  • Secondary School Gairdner Event and Site visit was held on Monday October 21, 2019.  Sixty (60) PEL students, peers, teacher and parents were invited to attend.  Prior to the Gairdner Event, a seminar was given to the PEL students by Dr. Savita Dhanvantari, Assistant Professor, Department of Medical Biophysics. The Gairdner Lecture was presented by visiting speaker, Dr. Susan Band Horwitz, Distinguished Professor.  Her presentation was "Nature as a Remarkable Chemist: The Discovery and Development of Taxol®”. After Dr. Horwitz’ public lecture, she spoke to the PEL Group. The event concluded with a tour of the Biomedical Imaging Research Centre
  • In November 2019, the Director matched and confirmed mentors for 19 Semester 2 students for the 2019-2020 PEL Program in 19 health research environments.
  • In early January 2020 it was clear that funding for the Provincial Partnership Council would not be available for 2020.
  • Mandatory pre-placement orientation was held on December 13th at London Health Sciences Centre, Victoria Hospital campus, attended by all Term 2 students.  Placements started in mid-February 2020.  Orientation included mentor expectations, library resources, Biosafety presentation and instructions to set up laboratory notebooks.
  • The Ministry of Education notified the PEL Director in January 2020 that funding would not be made available for the 2020-2021 academic year.
  • In March 2020 all PEL Co-op placements were cancelled because of the COVID-19 Pandemic.  All educational activity was cancelled for the remainder of the academic year. 

2018-2019

  • Promotion of 2018-2019 Partners in Experiential Learning (PEL) began in February 2018. PEL Co-op teachers were invited to promote PEL for 2018-2019.  We connected with 37 secondary schools in our region (TVDSB and LDCSB) to promote PEL to all guidance and cooperative education departments.
  • Appreciation and Information Session for PEL 1819 Co-op Education teachers was held at Victoria Hospital April 16, 2018.
  • April 2018, the PEL Program did not receive notification from the Ministry of Education about 2018-2019 funding, however prepared for the upcoming academic year as in past years.
  • Thirteen (13) Co-op Education Teachers registered 58 PEL Applicants from twelve (12) secondary schools in April-June.
  • The PEL Director and Program Coordinator conducted in-school Group Interviews with registered applicants.  Applicants were required to complete and upload the registration form along with a copy of their resume and support letter for why they should be in the program and create their student signature file.
  • The PEL Director networked to request mentor support for 58 placements.
  • The Director and Program Coordinator over the summer months, matched and confirmed mentors for 38 Semester 1 and Day 1/ Day 2 students for the 2018-2019 PEL Program in 25 health research environments.
  • PEL Co-op student spreadsheets finalized by August.  Three (3) PEL applicants dropped the program due to changes in their timetables and interests, resulting in 55 students completing the 2018-2019 program. 
  • PEL had not received confirmation from the Ministry of Education for funding of the 2018-2019 program by September.  The Program continued to provide academic research placements students; however the PEL Program Coordinator was laid off.
  • Mandatory pre-placement orientation was held on September 14th at London Health Sciences Centre, Victoria Hospital campus, attended by all Term 1 and D1/D2 students.  The majority of placements started in early October.  Orientation included mentor expectations, library resources, Biosafety presentation and instructions to set up laboratory notebooks.
  • Secondary School Gairdner Event and Site PEL students, peers, teacher and parents were invited to attend the Secondary School Gairdner Event which took place October Monday October 22nd. Guest speakers were Dr. Kelly Anderson, Assistant Professor, Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics; and Dr. Alan D. Lopez, recipient of the John Dirks Canada Gairdner Global Health Award 2018, “For ground-breaking work in conceptualizing and quantifying the Global Burden of Disease." The seminars were followed by students tours were in 2 locations: 1) Biomedical Imaging Research Centre (BIRC) and 2) St. Lawson Health Research at St. Joseph’s Heath Care.
  • The Director matched and confirmed in November mentors for 19 Semester 2 students for the 2018-2019 PEL Program in 16 health research environments.
  • Mandatory pre-placement orientation was held on December 7th at London Health Sciences Centre, Victoria Hospital campus, attended by all Term 2 a students.  Placements started in mid-February.  Orientation included mentor expectations, library resources, Biosafety presentation and instructions to set up laboratory notebooks.
  • To comply with new legislation eliminating police checks for minors, the PEL Director worked with the Manager, Administration and Finance in the Department of Biochemistry at Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry to find way to meet hospital requirements at LHSC and comply with provincial legislation. This resulted in creation of a Declaration of Waiver for PEL students under the age of 18 to complete.  
  • The Ministry of Education notified the PEL Director in January 2019 that funding was approved for 2018-2019. The PEL Program Coordinator was called back for part-time hours.  Late funding notification resulted in program events being cancelled including the student Fall and Spring Enrichment Seminars and Co-op Teacher Appreciation and Information session.
  • The PEL Student Advisory Committee (SAC) was formed in March 2019.
  • Three (3) PEL students presented posters at the 16th Annual Oncology Research and Education Day on Friday June 14, 2019, sponsored by the Department of Oncology and the Cancer Research and Technology Program (CaRTT).
  • The PEL SAC moderated the 2019-2010 Orientation for incoming over 65 PEL Applicants, teacher, parents and guests. Presenters included National Science Fair winners and current students presenting on the work their lab was doing.
  • Ten (10) PEL graduates enrolled in the PEL Summer Studentship program organized by London District Catholic High School.  Eight (8) students completed the course which consisted of full days in the lab with weekly integration meetings in July.
  • The PEL Director continues to serve as a member of the Provincial Partnership Council and the Strategic Partnership Task Force to support the mission of the Council relating to experiential learning in Ontario.

2017-2018

  • Promotion of 2017-2018 Partners in Experiential Learning (PEL) began in February 2017. PEL Co-op teachers were invited to promote PEL for 2017-2018.  We connected with 37 secondary schools in our region (TVDSB and LDCSB) to promote PEL to all guidance and cooperative education departments. We also connected with the London International Academy.
  • The PEL Program was notified in June by the Ministry of Education that they would receive funding to support the PEL program for 2017-2018 academic years. The existing PEL Program Coordinator was hired full-time with the program beginning September 2017.
  • Sixteen (16) PEL co-op teachers registered 78 PEL applicants from 16 secondary schools in April-May.  The PEL Director and Program Coordinator conducted in-school Group Interviews with registered applicants including receipt of resumes and applications. Three (3) PEL applicants dropped the program due to changes in their timetables and interests, resulting in 75 students completing the program.
  • The 2017-2018 PEL applicants, teachers, mentors and parents attended the 15th Annual CaRTT and Oncology Research and Education Day on June 16, 2017. Previous PEL students participated in the poster presentations and the information seminar.
  • PEL graduates were offered Summer Studentships for 2017.  In July and August, five (5) PEL students completed the program which required registration and completion in the LDCSB Summer School program. 
  • Over the summer months, the Director and Program Coordinator matched and confirmed mentors for 48 Semester 1 and Day 1/ Day 2 students for the 2017-2018 PEL Program in 30 health research environments.
  • Mandatory pre-placement orientation was held September 15th for the Semester 1 and Day 1/Day 2 PEL Co-op Students.  The majority of placements started in early October.
  • The 14th Annual Secondary School Gairdner Event took place October 23. All PEL students are invited to participate. Teachers, parents and friends are also invited. Keynote speakers: Dr. Steven Kerfoot, Associate Professor, Department of Microbiology and Immunology, Western University, “Level Up: Developing the Attributes and Skills of your Inner Scientist”, and Dr. Rino Rappoli, 2017 Gairdner Award Recipient “Reverse Vaccinology”. The event concluded with a tour of the Robarts Biomedical Imaging Research Centre in the afternoon.
  • The Fall PEL Enrichment Seminar was held December 4 at the Victoria Hospital campus of London Health Sciences Centre.  Thirty-nine (39) students, friends, parents and teachers attended presentations by current PEL Co-op students, their mentors and supervisors.
  • Mandatory pre-placement orientation was conducted on December 8th for 33 Semester 2 students.  Matching and placing was completed by early February 2018 with placements to start end of February. 
  • The second PEL Student Advisory Committee was formed in February 2018 with 4 students from London Central Secondary School.  The group was tasked with moving the PEL Student Survey to an on-line platform, participating in the 2018 Spring Enrichment Seminar and the PEL Orientation for 2018-2019 Co-op Students at the Oncology Research and Education Day
  • PEL and CaRTT were actively engaged in discussions with Ministry of Education Student Success Policy Branch regarding renewal of funding support for the 2018-2019 school year. 
  • The Spring PEL Enrichment Seminar was held Monday May 14 at the University Hospital campus of London Health Sciences Centre. Sixty-nine (69) students, friends, parents and teacher attended presentations by current PEL Co-op students, their mentors and supervisors.
  • The abstracts of three (3) PEL students were submitted and accepted for poster presentations to the Oncology Research and Education Day.       They were judged by the group Trainees Removing Interdisciplinary Barriers (TRIBE) for a best poster award.
  • Seventy-seven students, teacher, parents and friends attended the PEL Orientation for 2018-2019 at Oncology Research and Education Day.       Presentation were given by the three (3) students who submitted posters and an additional four (4) who won local, regional and national science fairs.
  • Seven (7) PEL graduates enrolled in the PEL Summer Studentship program organized by London District Catholic High School. Five (5) students completed the course which consists of full days in the lab with weekly integration meetings in July.

2016-2017

  • Promotion of 2016-2017 Partners in Experiential Learning (PEL) began in February 2016. Twenty-one past PEL Co-op teachers were invited to promote PEL for 2016-2017.  We connected with 37 secondary schools in our region (TVDSB and LDCSB) to promote PEL to all guidance and cooperative education departments.
  • The PEL Program received funding in April from the Ministry of Education to support the PEL program for 2016-2017 academic years.
  • Fifteen (15) PEL co-op teachers register 48 PEL applicants from 13 secondary schools in April-May.  In-school Group Interview with the PEL Director and registered applicants were conducted including receipt of resumes and applications. Three (3) PEL applicants applicants were required to drop the program due to changes in their timetables resulting in 45 students completing the program.
  • The 2016-2017 PEL applicants, teachers, mentors and parents attended the 13th Annual CaRTT and Oncology Research and Education Day on June 24th.  Previous PEL students participated in the poster presentations and the information seminar.
  • Ten (10) previous PEL graduates were offered Summer Studentships.  In July and August, five (5) PEL students completed the program which required registration and completion in the LDCSB Summer School program. 
  • Succession planning took place in August with the appointment of Mrs. Rhonda Alexander Teacher, Business Studies and Cooperative Education Teacher, Junior Achievement Liaison at Mother Teresa Catholic Secondary School, as the PEL Assistant Director.
  • Over the summer months, the Director matched and confirmed mentors for 32 Semester 1 and Day 1/ Day 2 students for the 2016-2017 PEL Program in 30 health research environments.
  • A new PEL Program Coordinator, Luciana Brown, MBA, was hired in September to work part-time with the program.  
  • Mandatory pre-placement orientation was held September 9th for the Semester 1 and Day 1/Day 2 PEL Co-op Students.  The majority of placements started at the end of September.
  • The first PEL Student Advisory Committee was created in September with 3 students from London Central Secondary School and the PEL Assistant Director Mrs. Rhonda Alexander.  The group was tasked with creating the first PEL Student Survey.
  • In October we connected with the Thames Valley District School Board for input to the PEL Student Survey and began collaborations with the Research and Assessment Department.  
  • The 13th Annual Secondary School Gairdner Event took place October 24. This is a mandatory participation event for PEL students. Keynote speakers: Dr. Ilka Heinemann, Assistant Professor, Department of Biochemistry, Schulich Medicine & Dentistry spoke on “Doing Science #likeagirl”, and Dr Rodolphe Barrangou, Recipient of the 2016 Canada Gairdner International Award spoke on “The Many Hats Scientists Wear”. 2016 Gairdner Secondary School Event. The seminar part of the day was concluded with a tour of the Robarts Biomedical Imaging Research Centre.
  • The first PEL Fall Enrichment Seminar was held December 6 at the Victoria Hospital of London Health Sciences Centre.  Approximately 50 students, friends, parents and teachers attended presentations by current PEL Co-op students, their mentors and supervisors.
  • Mandatory pre-placement orientation was conducted on December 9th for 14 Semester 2 students.  Matching and placing was completed by December 23. The placements will start end of February. 
  • PEL and CaRTT were actively engaged in discussions with Ministry of Education Student Success Policy Branch and Ministry of Advanced Education and Skills Development (MAESD) regarding a proposal to develop PEL opportunities for secondary school, undergraduate and post graduate students in the STEMM disciplines. Discussions were ongoing during the entire timeline of the 2016-2017 school year in preparation for implementation in the 2017-2018 school year. The PEL Director continues to serve as a member of the Provincial Partnership Council and the Strategic Partnership Task Force to support the mission of the Council relating to experiential learning in Ontario.

2015-2016

  • All TVDSB and LDCSB co-op teachers were notified in 2015 February of the PEL application to placement process. Co-op teachers with PEL prospects were invited to introduce their students to the program and support the application process steps as described on the website. The registration and application process was conducted in May and in-school group interviews were completed, as required, at the end of the month. 12 schools expressed interest in the program and 11 completed the registration process. 73 students completed the application process which resulted in 52 students being interviewed, matched, oriented and placed with PEL mentors in the two terms of the 2015-2016 school year. Preplacement activities included our 12th Annual CaRTT and Oncology Research and Education Day and Orientation Seminars in September and December.
  • The PEL director was invited to participate in the Regional Meeting of the American Association of Anatomists, 2015 May 30, at the Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry and promote the PEL program in the Workshop portion of the day.
  • Several 2014-2015 PEL co-op students presented at our CaRTT and Oncology Research and Education Day in June and others were successful in receiving summer studentships from their mentors.
  • Working in partnership with the Robarts Research Institute and the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, PEL presented the 9th Annual Secondary School Gairdner Event on Monday, October 26, 2015 from 8:30am-3:00pm. The day was opened with an introductory talk by Dr. Patrick O’Donoghue, Western University’s newest Canada Research Chair in Chemical Biology. The academic lecture was given by Dr. Lynne Maquat, a 2015 Gairdner Awardee who: holds the J. Lowell Orbison Endowed Chair; is Professor of Biochemistry & Biophysics and Professor of Oncology in the School of Medicine and Dentistry; is Director of the Center for RNA Biology: From Genome to Therapeutics; and is Chair of Graduate Women in Science at the University of Rochester in Rochester, New York, USA. Dr. Maquat was awarded "for the discovery of the mechanism that destroys mutant messenger RNAs in human cells, nonsense-mediated mRNA decay, which is critically important in both normal and disease states."-See more at: http://www.gairdner.org/content/lynne-e-maquat. After the lecture, Dr. Maquat joined us for lunch and followed up with a presentation and question and answer period with our students, teachers and guests. After our time with the 2015 Gairdner recipient, we toured several research sites of the Bone and Joint Institute on the campus of Western University.
  • During 2015-2016 school year, we were actively engaged in the grant proposal process with the Ontario Trillium Foundation for the purposes of sustaining, growing and replicating PEL.
  • Rodger Dusky continues to serve as a member of the Provincial Partnership Council and the Strategic Partnerships Task Force to support the mission of the Council relating to experiential learning in Ontario. Membership on this council provides PEL with accurate and current information from the Ministry of Education on experiential learning curriculum initiatives in Ontario.
  • From 2015 December to 2016 March we were engaged in developing a funding proposal to the Ontario Ministry of Education Student Success Policy Branch. Our efforts addressed “The Policy Framework for Community-Connected Experiential Learning, Kindergarten to Grade 12, Draft for Consultation, Winter 2016".
  • The PEL director presented a summative report to the 13th Annual CaRTT Retreat.
  • The PEL director introduced our cooperative education program to the Director of STEM programming at the London International Academy with the intent of developing a new partners in education initiative in the near future.
  • Several PEL co-op students attended the London Health Research Day, March 2016 which has seen continual growth and continues to establish itself as the premier research showcase for graduate students, trainees, clinical fellows and postdoctoral scholars.
  • Several 2015-2016 PEL alumni will present their research at the 13th annual CaRTT and Oncology Research and Education Day.

2014-2015

  • All TVDSB and LDCSB co-op teachers were notified of the new application to placement instructions on the website. Co-op students who were interested in engaging researchers in the health research community were invited to submit an application to the PEL program. The registration and application process was conducted in May and completed as required at the end of the month. Applicants were directed by their teachers to follow the registration instructions on the website and the school interviews were scheduled when teachers submitted prescribed applicant information. 17 schools expressed interest in the program and 10 completed the registration process. 48 students completed the application process which resulted in 33 students being interviewed, matched, oriented and placed with PEL mentors. Preplacement activities included our 11th Annual Oncology Research and Education Day and Orientation Seminars in September and December.
  • Several 2013-2014 PEL co-op students were successful in receiving summer studentships from their mentors.
  • Working in partnership with the Robarts Research Institute and the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, PEL presented the 8th Annual Secondary School Gairdner Event on Monday, October 27, 2014 from 8:30am-3:00pm. The day was opened with an introductory talk by Dr. Shawn Whitehead. The academic lecture was given by Sir Ravinder Maini, a 2014 Gairdner Awardee and visiting Professor at the Kennedy Institute of Rheumatology, University of Oxford, Oxford UK. Sir Maini was awarded for the discovery of anti-TNF therapy for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis and other inflammatory diseases. After the lecture, Sir Maini joined us for lunch and followed up with a question and answer period with our students, teachers and guests. After our time with the 2014 Gairdner recipient, we were introduced to some of the research and labs of the Biomedical Imaging Research Centre (BIRC) at the Lawson Imaging facilities at St. Joseph’s Health Care.
  • The PEL director submitted a letter of support for the Lawson Imaging grant application to the Ontario Research Fund (ORF) Research Excellence Program, Heart Failure: Prevention Through Early Detection Using New Imaging Methods. Responding to this request was an honour and an indicator of the successes achieved by PEL co-op students. In addition, the PEL Director, at the invitation of Dr. Frank Prato, introduced PEL to the Lawson Imaging Primary Investigators.
  • The council of Academic Hospitals of Ontario was presented with a profile of the PEL program that highlighted its growth and successes. The presentation was designed to encourage the replication of PEL in the regions serviced by the other academic hospitals in Ontario.
  • Dr. Koropatnick and Rodger Dusky met with Deb Matthews, MMP London North Central and Deputy Premier, President of the Treasury Board and Minister Responsible for the Poverty Reduction Strategy to describe the successes and challenges facing the PEL program.
  • Rodger Dusky continues to serve as a member of the Provincial Partnership Council and the Strategic Partnerships Task Force to support the mission of the Council relating to experiential learning in Ontario. Membership on this council provides PEL with accurate and current information from the Ministry of Education on experiential learning curriculum initiatives in Ontario. On August 13, the annual meeting of the council was presented with a profile of PEL.
  • The PEL director presented a summative report to the 12th Annual CaRTT Retreat.

2013-2014

  • The registration and application process was targeted for completion in 2013 May. Placement interviews were conducted in the schools and resulted in 84 sets of applications uploaded to the PEL DropBox on the Google Drive. Pre-placement activities included our 10th Annual Oncology Research and Education Day and Orientation Seminars in September and January. Again our application numbers increased resulting in 59 placements from 11 schools over 2 semesters.
  • In September we began contacting past CaRTT and PEL trainees in order to follow the progress of their careers, and to keep them informed of future CaRTT and PEL events.
  • The Robarts Research Institute in partnership with the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry and PEL presented the 7th Annual Secondary School Gairdner Event on Monday, October 21, 2013 from 8:30am-3:00pm. The event was opened with an introductory talk by Dr. Dan Hardy. The academic lecture was given by Dr. Daniel Bradley, a 2013 Gairdner Awardee, who talked about "HCV: The discovery of a shadowy virus". Dr. Bradley joined us for lunch and followed up with a question and answer period with the our students, teachers and guests. Dr. Bradley came to London, Ontario from his home in North Carolina in conjunction with the Gairdner Awards dinner in Toronto. After our time with Dr. Bradley we were introduced to some of the the research and labs of the Biomedical Imaging Research Centre (BIRC) at the Robarts.
  • Volume 1, Issue 12 of The Pulse in October 2013, the Schulich Medicine & Dentistry Faculty Staff Newsletter, profiled PEL and Mauricio Rodriguez-Torres, a 2010-2011PEL co-op student from the Wheable Adult Education Centre. Mauricio, currently a PhD Candidate, Anatomy and Cell Biology, has always believed that nothing is worth doing unless others gain a positive and enjoyable benefit. This altruistic principle led him to a career in medical research, specifically in patient-relevant research, and a prestigious Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarship.
  • Western Revealed, a show that partners Western University with Rogers TV on Cable 13, featured PEL co-op students in Robarts on Tuesday, December 10 at 6:30 p.m. on Rogers Cable 13 in London, Ontario. 
  • CaRTT and PEL have teamed with the Canadian Cancer Society to hold a fundraising “Colours of Hope” 5 kilometre run on Saturday, March 15, 2014 on the Western University campus. The run will raise funds to support the Canadian Cancer Society, and CaRTT and PEL research training for high school co-op students and undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate research training at Western University, the Lawson Health Research Institute, and affiliated London teaching hospitals.
  • This year, marks the 6th year that the directors of CaRTT and PEL have served the Provincial Partnership Council. This council is comprised of leaders from the private, public and voluntary sectors. The PPC is a volunteer advisory committee of the Government of Ontario. The PPC's mission is to ensure that every employer in Ontario appreciates the value of engaging high school students in meaningful experiences that foster workplace skills development and inform educational and career-related decisions.
  • The PEL website was updated to facilitate changes to the student 2014-2015 registration and application process.

2012-2013

  • Planning for the 2012-2013 registration process proved successful in sustaining the previous year’s record regstration and resulted in 56 students from 15 secondary schools being placed in health research environments. Our partners continued to meet PEL expectations and as a result the 2012-2013 pre-placement process activities including the Oncology Research and Education Day and the Orientation Seminars in September and December were a success.
  • The Robarts Research Institute in partnership with the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry and PEL presented the 6th Secondary School Gairdner Event on Monday, October 22, 2012 from 8:30am-2:00pm.The event was opened with a lecture by Drs. The academic lecture was given by Dr. Michael Rosbash, a 2012 Gairdner Awardee http://www.gairdner.org/content/michael-rosbash-and-jeffrey-c-hall-2012-canada-gairdner-international-award and was followed by lunch and a question and answer period with the Gairdner recipient for secondary school students, teachers and guests. Dr. Rosbash came to London ON from Brandeis University, Waltham MA USA in conjunction with the Gairdner Awards dinner in Toronto.
  • In 2012 October, PEL contributed a support letter to CaRTT’s proposal to the Western Interdisciplinary Development Initiatives (IDI) based on the CaRTT training program and its support for PEL. The IDI Program provides seed funding for projects that further Western’s research and teaching mission, attract scholars and graduate students to our University, and bring prestige to Western.
  • In January 2013, the Lawson nominated PEL for a Canadian Institutes of Health Research Synapse Award 2013.
  • PEL in partnership with the Lawson and Mother Teresa Catholic Secondary School (MTCSS) presented the 1st Secondary School Café Scientifique on Tuesday, February 26 from 11:30-12:45pm at MTCSS.
